Dragon NaturallySpeaking tutorial: Basic commands for navigating in Microsoft Excel

In this Dragon NaturallySpeaking tutorial, I show basic commands for navigating Microsoft Excel.

As compared to Microsoft Word, the documentation for using Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Microsoft Excel is pretty limited. So I thought of creating this blog post and also a YouTube video which is appended at the end of this post.

Here is a list of commands which are included in the video.

  1. Navigate through the worksheet by saying "go to the next worksheet" or "go to previous worksheet"
  2. Navigate to a particular cell by saying "go to the cell column row". Note that you can use the military alphabet equivalent to say the column name to reduce the chance of misinterpretation.
  3. You can select a particular column or row by saying "select row/column". You can also select several columns or rows by saying "select next 5 columns" or by saying "select next 5 rows".
  4. You can insert a row by saying "insert row"
  5. you can insert a column by saying "insert columns". Note that you have to use the plural form. For me, the singular form will not work. However, Dragon NaturallySpeaking documentation seems to suggest that the singular form should work. If you find that it works for you, please feel free to leave a comment below is stating the versions of Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Microsoft Excel and Windows that you are using. That will help other readers of this blog post.
Here is the YouTube video.

Reduce finger, wrist and forearm pain due to computer mouse usage with Gentle Mouse

If you are reading this on a computer screen, chances are that you would have clicked your mouse at least a couple of times to navigate through this content. And in most cases, the finger used to click would be your index finger. Now imagine doing this repetitive movement every few minutes, day after day, year after year and you can easily infer that your fingers are at an increased risk of repetitive stress injury (or RSI) due to mouse overuse. The common name given to this painful condition is  Mouse Finger .  The 'Finger' in Mouse Finger usually leads a person to believe that the pain is restricted to the fingers alone.  However, from what I have surmised after reviewing anecdotal evidence and medical literature, it commonly presents as a cluster of symptoms in the finger, wrist and the forearm. Perhaps that explains why there are no easily available research studies pertaining to Mouse Finger alone. Most of the research studies consider these symptoms as a p...

How US Tax Reform Affects Patients with Chronic Illness

It was messy, but it is finally done and over with! On December 22, 2017 the tax reform bill , or 'a giant tax cut ' as President Trump calls it, has finally been passed by both houses and has been signed into a law. It is not immediately obvious how the tax plan impacts patients with chronic illnesses. Views in the media are often tainted by the political prism through which the commentators tend to look at this issue. Plus there is limited discussion of the specific provisions that can affect patients with chronic illnesses. In this post, I am outlining some of the major provisions of the final bill that may affect chronically ill patients. Bear in mind that I am not a professional in accounting and taxation . However, I seem to have had more than my fair share of tax problems and as a result, I have become overfamiliar with the IRS website and publications. Article continues after the ad To make it easier to wrap our brains around this complex piece...

Chronic pain management with Thermotex infrared heating pad

Thermotex infrared heating pad has been one of my purchases that have helped me a lot in dealing with my chronic pain due to fibromyalgia. Over the course of the past 10 years that I have owned this, I have given it to friends and family to help reduce the pain due to shoulder injury knee and abdominal pain. I have made a YouTube video as a review for this below. I hope you find this useful. The only shortcoming that I have seen is that I cannot wrap it around the shoulder. So if you come across an infrared heating pad which can be wrapped around the neck and shoulders, please do share in the comments below.
